What to Expect

We know it can be stressful going to a new dentist. So here are 5 things you can expect when you visit us for the first time.

1. Some Awkward Feelings

In many cases, a patient’s old dentist may have been like a friend or even someone they socialized with. So it is normal to feel a loyalty towards a past dentist, but it is important to make changes for improving your health, regardless of personal emotions.

2. A Different Approach

The Dental Wellness Center believes that many of the traditional procedures and materials are not all advantageous to ones wellness and health. We will answer questions and address this paradigm switch, because this is how we believe our profession needs to change. We welcome your telephone calls and can answer questions you have about our practice. We will try to gather as much information as possible during that first call so your first visit is not as stressful.

3. A Warm Welcome

First off, there is plenty of off-street parking available up the street from our office. When you enter our building you will be greeted by our friendly staff. We always attempt to be on time for your appointment and realize that your time is valuable. You will meet one of the Doctors on your initial appointment. He or she will listen to all the concerns you might have about your overall health and any medical problems. We will discuss your dental health and history, and any special concerns you have about anything in your mouth that does not feel right. They will briefly review any medications and nutritional supplements you are taking and may offer their input. The Dental Wellness Center is designed to help improve your health in many ways, not just your teeth.

4. An Holistic Examination

Your head, neck and mouth will be examined to rule out cancers, tumors, and other pathologies. The current state of your mouth and teeth will be recorded. Additional records may be taken, including intra-oral images (photographs) of your teeth and gums, impressions of your teeth, and any x-rays, necessary. The doctor will explain their findings in a non-judgmental way and will explain conditions and possible problems they observed on this first examination. A discussion about toxic materials may be part of this discussion, with emphasis on toxic mercury and other non-biocompatible materials present. All new patients will also receive a TMJ muscle exam. Also, we will screen for sleep apnea and obstructive sleep apnea, because we feel that it should always be part of a wellness and health exam.

5. A Plan Forward

Before you leave, the doctor will ask if you have further questions. You will be given an appointment for a scaling and polishing appointment with our hygienist for your next visit. Should it be determined that you may need dental treatment of problems in your mouth, additional time is allotted after the hygienist completes her polishing to sit down and discuss your dental needs. Our office manager, Mandy, will also discuss the appointments you will need, the fees, and any insurance questions you might have.

Everyone at Dental Wellness Center has treated me with the utmost care, kindness, and respect. I love them all. I am someone who has taken good care of her teeth yet still undergoes many problems. I choose Dental Wellness Center because of who their expertise, holistic approach, kindness, and many other reasons.
